Food Fraud Papers Unpacked (Supplement to Issue 124)
For paying subscribers
In January 2024, two new food fraud papers were published, and I’ve unpacked them here, having run out of room in the regular issue.
Article One, Database of Food Fraud Records: Summary of Data from 1980 to 2022, Everstine, Chin, Lopes, Moore
This paper, by Everstine et.al. summarises decades of food fraud monitoring.
As I noted in the main post (Issue 124), the impact of food fraud on food safety is worse than many of us thought!
The paper is written by the team that looks after the FoodChainID Food Fraud Database, headed by Dr Karen Everstine. It addresses information in the database, as well as describing how the database itself is designed and constructed.
The food fraud database is for identifying relevant historical information for vulnerability assessments and to help regulatory agencies and other stakeholders prioritise resources.
