How to Renew or Cancel Your Subscription to 🍏The Rotten Apple🍏
This post explains how paying subscribers can manage their subscriptions.
Contents
Background
I use a platform called Substack to publish The Rotten Apple. Substack sends newsletter emails on my behalf and automates the subscription payment system. The Rotten Apple has free subscriptions and paid subscriptions which are renewed monthly or annually.
Your account
Payments are managed through your Substack account.
If you are receiving emails from The Rotten Apple then you have a Substack account. Your account has the same email address as your subscriber email address. Use your Substack account to manage your subscription and your payment method.
To log in to your Substack account, go to www.Substack.com/settings using the browser you usually use to read your emails. If you don’t see your profile information at that page, click ‘Sign In’.
Substack doesn’t have account passwords, instead, they send a link to your email address for logging in.
How to update your payment method
If your credit card has expired or you want to pay using a different card, log in to your Substack account, at www.Substack.com/settings using the browser you usually use to read your emails.
In settings, scroll to ‘Subscriptions’ and click on The Rotten Apple. In the payment information section, select ‘Edit’ next to payment method, then add your new card and click ‘Save’.
If you can’t pay by credit card, or need other help with your payment method, write to me by replying to any of the emails I send.
Annual subscriptions
If you have an annual subscription, it will automatically renew 12 months after you first paid. You'll receive an email reminder about a week before your subscription is set to renew.
To stop your paid subscription from renewing, you must cancel your subscription before the renewal date by following these steps: How do I cancel my paid subscription?
If your credit card has expired and Substack’s attempts to charge it fail, you will be notified by email (these emails may go to your junk/spam folder). If you don’t update your payment method your paid subscription will end and you will be downgraded to a free subscriber, losing access to the monthly supplements and food fraud news.
How to cancel a monthly subscription
Prevent your monthly subscription from auto-renewing at the end of your monthly billing period by following the instructions on this page: How do I cancel my paid subscription?
Pausing a subscription
It is possible to pause your subscription for 1, 3, or 6 months. This stops payments and paid subscriber benefits for the chosen period.
Thank you for your paid subscription. Your financial support helps me keep delivering ad-free independent food safety and food fraud news so we can grow our community of food safety champions.
